Puddle of Mudd

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Puddle of Mudd (often stylized as PUDDLE OF MUᗡᗡ) is an American rock band from Kansas City, Missouri. To date the band has sold over seven million albums, and have had a string of No. 1 mainstream rock singles in the United States.Their major-label debut Come Clean has sold over five million copies. They have released two independent and four major albums, with their latest being Volume 4: Songs in the Key of Love & Hate in December 2009, and their latest compilation album being re:(disc)overed, released in August 2011.

Puddle of Mudd was formed on September 13, 1992 in Kansas City by Wes Scantlin (vocals/rhythm guitar), Jimmy Allen (guitar), Sean Sammon (bass), and Kenny Burkitt (drums). The name was inspired by the Missouri River flood, which inundated the band's practice space, and left the floor a big "puddle of mud". The group's first album, Stuck, was released in 1994 on V&R Records. The album was produced by the band and E.J. Rose, and was recorded at Red House Studio in Lawrence, Kansas. It spawned two radio singles (the first was "You Don't Know", the second "Drift and Die").
Minus Jimmy Allen, the group released a second album, Abrasive, in 1997 on Hardknocks Records. It had eleven tracks, all written by the band, three of which would eventually make it on to Puddle of Mudd's first major label release. Differences of opinion and other factors led to the break-up of the original Puddle of Mudd by early 1999, leaving Scantlin as the only original member. He then decided to reform the band with Jimmy Allen late in 1999 but shortly fell into differences again.

Scantlin's start in the music business came after a copy of his demo tape was delivered to Fred Durst. Durst contacted Scantlin, and after hearing that his band had broken up, decided to bring him to California to attempt to put a new band together.
One of the first people Scantlin met upon arriving in California was Doug Ardito, an intern at Interscope Records. When Scantlin found out about Ardito's bass playing, they decided to work together. They were still in need of a guitarist and drummer. Fred Durst decided to contact a guitarist he knew from his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida, Paul Phillips, who had formerly played in a local band there called Happy Hour. After getting the call from Durst, Paul decided to try out for Puddle of Mudd, and was accepted, choosing to leave college in order to join. The band held auditions for a new drummer, which produced Greg Upchurch, an ex-member of Eleven who had also toured with Chris Cornell.
Puddle of Mudd released its major-label debut album Come Clean on August 28, 2001. The lead single from the album, "Control" was successful. It was also the theme song for WWE's Survivor Series 2001.

In 2009, former guitarist Paul Phillips rejoined the band after replacement Christian Stone was let go on good terms. Around this time the band recruited Famous producer Brian Howes to begin recording a new record in Vancouver.

On February 10, 2010, a new song, "Shook Up the World" was released. The song was written for Team USA, for use in the 2010 Winter Olympics. All proceeds from the song will go to TeamUSA.]Although intended for release during the Olympics, the deadline was missed.
In 2010, it was announced that Puddle of Mudd has parted ways with bassist Doug Ardito on good terms, although he rejoined the next year. At the time, Ardito had been with the band for eleven years. Jacksonville Burn Season frontman, Damien Starkey, took his place.

Ardito rejoined the band in 2011 and is presently touring with them. Ryan Yerdon has been replaced by Shannon Boone.

Due to the notoriety surrounding how the band was signed with Durst, the band is often asked regarding their relationship with him. Scantlin blasted Durst in an interview in 2004 with Canada's Chart magazine. He stated, "He doesn't write our songs, he doesn't produce our songs, he doesn't do anything for us. He doesn't do our videos anymore. He doesn't do anything for this band. I don't know what he's doing, I don't know what the guy's like. All I know is that he's like Mr. Hollywood guy, Mr. Celebrity. Like, 'I don't hang out with anybody except Hollywood celebrities'. Every single fucking interview I've ever fucking done, I get asked about that fucking guy..." He added, "And for me to do interviews all the time and be asked about this certain individual... People think he writes music with me or something. He does not do that. I just don't get it. We have nothing in common. He doesn't even call us, he has his assistant call us to congratulate us on our record. Yeah, that's how pathetic he is."
On January 6, 2011, Durst attempted to get back in touch with Scantlin via a tweet on his official Twitter page. "Who knows Wes from puddle of mudd? I wanna connect w him again. Let me know."[20] Scantlin's reaction to this is not yet known, but both Limp Bizkit and Puddle of Mudd are playing together on Epicenter 2011, along with another one of Durst's former proteges, Staind.

Life on Display Album by Puddle of Mudd

Life on Display is the third studio album by post-grunge band Puddle of Mudd. It was produced by John Kurzweg whose previous work includes Creed, Socialburn, and No Address. Despite generally negative reviews, the album reached #20 on the Billboard 200 album chart and spawned one hit single, "Away from Me," which reached #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks. Two additional minor hits, "Spin You Around" and "Heel Over Head," charted on the U.S. Mainstream Rock and Alternative charts. All three singles had corresponding music videos.
To date, Life on Display has sold 706,191 units in the United States compared their previous album, Come Clean, which has sold over three million copies in the U.S. and has been certified 3x platinum. Contrary to popular belief, album sales did not affect former members Greg and Paul's decisions to depart from the band.

Come Clean is the major label debut by post-grunge band Puddle of Mudd. Released on August 28, 2001, the album was responsible for breaking Puddle of Mudd into the mainstream music scene. It contains the hit singles "Control," "Blurry," "Drift & Die" and "She Hates Me." Various tracks were re-recorded from the band's previous releases, Stuck and Abrasive. The album reached the Billboard 200 Albums chart peaking at #9.
The album has sold over five million copies, it was certified 3x platinum by the RIAA, and remains the band's highest selling album. It received mixed reviews from music critics.
The album's controversial album cover by American photographer Kate Schermerhorn features her son, Sacha, with his pants down and buttocks exposed (the image was shot the afternoon of the 1999 full solar eclipse in Cornwall, England). Retailers Kmart and Walmart did not like the cover and was never sold in their stores.

Abrasive is the debut studio album by Puddle of Mudd, released in 1997 on Hardknocks Records. The album was set to be their first album and is extremely rare as it was only released with limited distribution. The band had said that if they ever get the chance, they would like to re-release this album. The album is currently in the stage of being re-released by the band. It is commonly mistaken as a demo.
The tracks "Nobody Told Me", "Said", "Piss It All Away", "All I Ask For" and "Abrasive" were all rerecorded for Puddle Of Mudd's following album, Come Clean, but only the first three made it on the album. This album version of "Abrasive" was included on the "Control" single and the special editions of Come Clean. "All I Ask For" only exists in a demo take from these sessions and this was included on the "Blurry" single.

Traa is married and has two children, and as a bassist, has a jazz and funk background.
In 2005, Daniels signed an endorsement deal with Warrior and he is currently working on his signature bass, to be made by Warrior Bass.
Traa is also the President of a production company known as Ryot Entertainment. The company has teamed up with SteelRoots. He is the manager of the alternative band The Wrecking.
Daniels is a conservative and supports pro-life efforts, including the Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity.
He originally comes from Cleveland, Ohio.

Marcos Curiel of P.O.D.

Marcos Curiel (born September 9, 1974) is the guitarist of rock bands P.O.D., The Accident Experiment and Daylight Division.
Curiel was born in San Diego California in 1974 and is of Mexican descent. He grew up in the neighboring city of Chula Vista, where he graduated from Bonita Vista High School in 1992. Curiel started P.O.D. that year, along with friend Noah "Wuv" Bernardo.

Marcos has attended the Howard Fine Acting Studio. Curiel is the youngest member of P.O.D.

In an e-mail sent to fans in 2003, P.O.D. front man Sonny Sandoval said Curiel left "to pursue his own vision apart from P.O.D." However, Curiel insisted in a phone call from his San Diego home that he was kicked out by Atlantic Records management.
"Because of your loyalty and respect, it saddens me to say that Marcos is no longer with P.O.D.," Sandoval wrote. "Never have we imagined P.O.D. without him, but we now know this vision is bigger than the four of us."
Curiel, who was always an outspoken member of P.O.D., was particularly upset because apparently management, not his bandmates, called to fire him. He said the group met a few weeks before his removal and everyone acted enthusiastic about his projects. He has been quoted as saying;
"As soon as I was out, they started talking stuff behind my back," he said. "It's very, very shady. I have friends defending me on the Web site, and every time they put something up in defense of me, it gets deleted. I'm like, 'What? This is not fair, dude.' ... Then I found out they had another guitar player already. I was like, 'Whoa, they've been plotting this for a long time.'"
On December 30, 2006, just months after P.O.D. left Atlantic Records and on the same day his replacement Jason Truby left the band, Marcos was asked to rejoin P.O.D. and was welcomed back with open arms. The band announced to their fans via email through their mailing list and via their MySpace page, that Curiel had re-joined.

Based in San Diego, California, Blacklisted Royalty Recordings is the production company and independent record label owned by producer, song writer and guitarist Marcos Curiel.

Sonny Sandoval of P.O.D.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Paul Joshua "Sonny" Sandoval (born May 16, 1974) is an American singer and rapper. He is best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band P.O.D..

Sandoval was born in San Diego, California to a Hawaiian-Chamorro mother and a Mexican-Italian father. He grew up in the Otay Mesa neighborhood of South San Diego, and joined a gang at age thirteen. He drank and used marijuana frequently during his teenage years. However, in 1992, when he was eighteen, Sandoval's mother died of leukemia at the age of 37. During her illness, Sonny was greatly influenced by his mother's faith as a devout Christian. Turning his life around, he pursued a career as an MC. He later joined the band Enoch, a group started by Wuv Bernardo, Gabe Portillo and Marcos Curiel, which, with the addition of Sandoval, later became P.O.D. (acronym for "Payable On Death"). Sandoval states his musical roots as reggae, rock, and rap, all of which are apparent in P.O.D. He and his wife Shannon married in 1996, and have two daughters, Nevaeh and Marley, and a son, Justice. Sandoval is widely credited with the sudden popularity of the name Nevaeh, which, as he revealed on MTV Cribs, is Heaven spelled backwards.

For most of P.O.D.'s career, Sandoval was well known for his dreadlocks (which, by the release of the video for "Going in Blind", had reached the length of his waist), but since the release of P.O.D.'s seventh studio album, When Angels & Serpents Dance, he has cut them off. He did this because of the meaning of the dreads. He realized people started using the style as a way to look cool and then seeing that the meaning wasn't seen by fans, he then decided to remove them.

He has been named number 63 in Hit Parader's Top 100 Metal Vocalists of All Time in 2006. He is currently involved with EXIT Concerts and his own organization, The Whosoevers.

Murdered Love Album by P.O.D.

Murdered Love is the eighth studio album by American alternative metal band P.O.D., released on July 10, 2012. It debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 17 with sales of over 16,000 in its first week in the U.S.[11] Murdered Love is the follow-up to When Angels & Serpents Dance and it sees the band reunited with long-time producer Howard Benson who also produced the band's The Fundamental Elements of Southtown and Satellite albums. Prior to the album's official release, three songs were made available for download. Two of which, "Eyez" and a demo version of "On Fire"[13] for free download on the band's website. The album features guest appearances from Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta, Cypress Hill's Sen Dog, and Psycho Realm's Sick Jacken.
"Lost in Forever (Scream)", the album's lead single, charted at No. 12 on the mainstream rock charts, No. 1 on Active Rock, and No. 1 on Christian Rock. The music video was released on May 14, 2012 and has since received over 2,700, views. The second single, "Higher", was released in late October and "Beautiful", the third and final single from Murdered Love, was released in March.
A sample of "West Coast Rock Steady", the fifth track off the album with Sen Dog of Cypress Hill, was featured on ESPN. The song "Beautiful" was featured on an episode of the Comedy Central television show Workaholics.
On July 3, the band premiered the "Murdered Love" video directed by Ramon Boutviseth.
An edited version of the album omitting track 11 ("I Am") was released to Family Christian stores. The purpose behind the censorship is the song itself contains the word "F---", something that P.O.D. had never done previously.

Payable on Death (stylized as P.O.D.)[9] is an American nu metal band formed in 1992. The band's line-up consists of vocalist Sonny Sandoval, drummer Wuv Bernardo, guitarist Marcos Curiel, and bassist Traa Daniels.
They have released six major label studio albums along with two independent albums and have sold over 12 million records worldwide. Over the course of their career, the band have also received three Grammy Award nominations, contributed to numerous motion picture soundtracks and toured internationally. With their third studio album, The Fundamental Elements of Southtown, they achieved their initial mainstream success; the album was certified Platinum by the RIAA in 2000. Their following studio album, Satellite, continued the band's success with the singles, "Alive" and "Youth of the Nation", pushing it to go triple platinum.

In 1991, friends Marcos Curiel and Wuv Bernardo engaged in jam sessions, with Marcos covering guitar and Wuv playing the drums with no vocalist. Calling themselves Eschatos, they started playing at keg parties doing Metallica and Slayer cover songs.
After his mother's fatal illness, Sonny Sandoval converted to Christianity and was asked by his cousin, Wuv Bernardo, to join the band as a way to keep his mind straight as mentioned on their DVD, Still Payin' Dues. They got a bass player, Gabe Portillo, and eventually changed their name to P.O.D.

After recording a demo tape, Traa Daniels joined the band in 1994 when they needed a bassist for some shows to replace Gabe. P.O.D. signed with Rescue Records, a label created by Wuv's father, Noah Bernardo Sr., who was also the band's first manager.Between 1994 and 1997, they released three albums under the label, Snuff the Punk, Brown and Payable on Death Live.Longtime manager Tim Cook was first introduced to the band when he booked them to play his club The Where-House in Bartlesville, Oklahoma following strong local word of mouth support. He later described their performance by saying: "I stood at the back of the venue with tears in my eyes – it was the greatest thing I had ever seen."By that point, Bernardo Sr. was looking for someone else to take P.O.D.'s career further and so Cook took over as manager.

On September 11, 2001 P.O.D. released their fourth studio album, Satellite. The album's first single, "Alive", went on to become one of MTV's and MTV2's top played videos of the year. The video's popularity, as well as the song's positive message, helped the song become a huge modern rock radio hit and it was Grammy nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2002.
The album's second single, "Youth of the Nation", was influenced in part by the school shootings at Santana High School, Columbine High School, and Granite Hills High School. It was Grammy nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2003. The 2002 singles, "Boom" and "Satellite", also became quite popular. In addition, the concluding track of the album, "Portrait," was Grammy nominated for Best Metal Performance in 2003. Satellite went on to become RIAA-certified triple platinum.[13] The author of Encyclopedia of Contemporary Christian Music has described P.O.D. as "One of the biggest success stories in recent Christian music."

On February 19, 2003, guitarist Marcos Curiel left the band due to his side project, The Accident Experiment, and to "spiritual differences." However, Marcos claimed that he was actually kicked out of the band. Curiel was replaced by Jason Truby, former member of Christian metal band Living Sacrifice, and assisted with the recording of "Sleeping Awake", from The Matrix Reloaded soundtrack. In an interview with Yahoo! Music, Sonny stated that Jason is the reason why the group is still together.

In a statement made by the band's manager on their MySpace page, it was officially announced, on December 30, 2006, that Jason Truby had left the band. They had said "God worked it out because Jason decided to leave the band the same day Marcos asked to rejoin." Marcos performed with the band for the first time since his departure on the 2006 New Year's Eve episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The band's name, Payable on Death (P.O.D.), derives itself from the banking term "Payable on Death". The band chose this name to be a direct tie in with the Christian theology that explains that since Jesus died on the Cross, Christians' debts to God have been paid for. P.O.D.'s style has evolved over the years, from the rap metal sound on their early albums to the nu metal and reggae-infused alternative metal styles for which they're most well known. The band's seventh album, When Angels & Serpents Dance, is a combination of alternative rock, reggae rock and Latin-influenced metal with almost none of the rap metal or nu metal sound of their older releases. P.O.D.'s influences include Santana, Bad Brains, Bob Marley, Metallica, U2, Pantera, Rage Against the Machine, Beastie Boys, Black Flag, Faith No More, The Police, Jane's Addiction, Living Colour, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sepultura and Suicidal Tendencies.

Los Del Río "The ones from the river"), also known as The Del Rios, is a Spanish Latin Pop duo who formed in 1962. They were best known for their smash-hit and hot dance single "Macarena", originally released in early 1994. The song became a worldwide success.

The single "Tengo, Tengo" was released on February 18, 1996, and appeared later that year on the album Fiesta Macarena. The group ultimately released six albums: A Mi Me Gusta, Macarena Non Stop, Fiesta Macarena, Colores, Rio y Guestano and Alegria y Cosabuena. Five of the albums featured versions of "Macarena", in different styles and remixes.
Los Del Rio collaborated with Bahama pop rap group Baha Men on the 1997 single "Car Loca Rosa", which featured the group and hip hop musician MC Hammer. A remix of the song was released on June 12, 1998, edited by Fangoria; when they did not receive credit for the track, members Olvido Gara and Nacho Canut filed suit against Los Del Río.
Because of their considerable success worldwide, their native town of Dos Hermanas has named a new municipal music hall, the Anfiteatro Los Del Río, after them.

Kai

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Kai is an Asian-American R&B musical group from the San Francisco Bay Area started in 1992 and has been on hiatus since 2001.
The group was formed when Anthony "AC" Lorenzo invited Andrew "Dru" Gapuz, Geoffrey "Geof" Lintao, Quincy "Q" Victoria and Leo Chan (the group's sole Chinese American member) to perform at a San Francisco benefit concert. Following a group split, AC, Dru and Leo began working as a trio and in 1995, added Errol Viray and AC's cousin Andrey "Drey" Silva.
Originally named APEX, the group changed its name to Kai, an abbrevated version of the Tagalog word "kaibigan", which means "friend". They were signed to HB Records, a local studio and began working on an album. Their debut single, "Say You'll Stay" was released shortly after and received strong radio play. This helped them get signed by Geffen in 1997. In 1998, they released their self-titled debut album on Geffen, making them the second Filipino American recording artist to release an album on a major record label.

Their only charting single was the previously mentioned "Say You'll Stay" which reached #59 on the Billboard Hot 100. In that same year, they were also featured in an issue of Vibe Magazine alongside rap group The Mountain Brothers in an article promoting up-and-coming Asian American talent in the music industry.
In 2000, as a Promise to his family to complete his education, Andrew Gapuz left the group. He was replaced by Johnny Misa, amidst a controversy that Misa was already slated to fill a vacated spot in the Los Angeles based a cappella group Ja'a. With Misa in the lineup, Kai released their second album, The Promise under C3D Records with singles "Every Little Thing" and "It Might Be You." They toured for the album with the backup band Deviation.
In a similar fashion to other Filipino American recording artists, both of Kai's albums were recorded in English and also featured many covers of songs which were prominent in the 1970s and 1980s. Also in similar fashion to their peers, they were known to sing Tagalog covers at their live performances, as well as other popular English covers that were more recent.
Throughout their career, Kai also released exclusive songs not featured on their albums on various compilation albums. In 1998, "Last to Know" was featured on Serenade Volume 1, a compilation released by Filipino American record label Classified Records. Kai also contributed to two compilations released by popular social networking website AsianAvenue.com. A version of "The Promise", which would later be modified before it became the title track of their second album, was released on AsianAvenue.com Plugged In Volume 1 in 1999 and a cover of Shai's "Come With Me" featuring Deviation was released on AsianAvenue.com Plugged In Volume 3 in 2001.
In 2001, Kai officially retired as a group. With the group's lack of a consistent webpage throughout their career and popular sites such as MySpace or Wikipedia which are typically used by recording artists and their fans to convey information to a wider audience not developed yet, the circumstances surrounding their retirement remain a mystery.
Members Andrey Silva and Errol Viray attempted to continue under the name Kai as a duo shortly after the group's initial breakup. This venture, however, was short-lived.

Kai was the first of many Filipino American R&B/pop artists/groups of the late 1990s and early 2000s that flooded the independent music scene throughout California, the state with the largest Filipino American population in the United States, especially in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In 2006, Kid Heroes Productions featured Kai's "Something Inside Me" music video on their Bootleg Visuals Volume 1 release, which featured music videos from Filipino American recording artists.
Kai is often miscited as the artist of certain songs on music sharing websites such as imeem or peer to peer networks such as Kazaa or BitTorrent. Most notably, their name is incorrectly accredited to R&B group Portrait's "How Deep Is Your Love", which was released three years before Kai's debut album. They are also miscited as being the artists of "Forever", and "Twinkle Twinkle", recorded by R&B groups Damage and Simplicity, respectively.

Stuart Zender of Jamiroquai

Stuart Patrick Jude Zender (born 18 March 1974, Sheffield, South Yorkshire) is an English bassist, songwriter and record producer. He is best known for being the original bass player for Jamiroquai.

Raised in Philadelphia, he attended Leighton Park School in Reading (for a year in 1988-89 before being expelled) known for its strength in music. Stuart left his home when he was seventeen. Before he left, his mother gave him two thousand pounds that she saved, to give Stuart a head start with things in life.
As Stuart said, he never had good business acumen, so instead of investing that money in some way, he went to the music store and bought a Warwick Streamer bass (which cost nearly the whole amount given to him by his mother). Before picking up a Warwick, Stuart played a Music Man Stingray bass. Of his early bands, the most famous was prank rock group Fabulous, a 1991 outfit were chiefly made up of NME writers and photographers[citation needed].
Stuart was one of the founding members of the funk/acid jazz band Jamiroquai. He joined the band in 1993, and became known for his playing style[citation needed]. Soon after, Zender was asked to become an official Warwick basses endorser[citation needed]. Zender received a number of unique custom shop Streamer models. He played, co-wrote and produced on Jamiroquai's first three albums: Emergency on Planet Earth, The Return of the Space Cowboy and Travelling Without Moving. According to the Guinness World Records, Travelling Without Moving is the best selling funk album of all time and currently has sold around 11.5 million records worldwide.
Zender left Jamiroquai in 1999 during recording of their fourth album Synkronized because of conflicts with lead singer Jay Kay. The circumstances behind his departure have never been fully revealed, but Stuart explained that he felt that he (and other band members) were not being credited for assisting in songwriting and producing. He also stated that he tendered his resignation to spend more time with his budding family. Stuart was replaced by Nick Fyffe, who had previously been in a Jamiroquai tribute band.

He has also worked with numerous artists, including All Saints, Omar, Lauryn Hill, D'Angelo, Gorillaz, Samuel Purdey, Ms. Dynamite and Stevie Wonder. He also dated singer Melanie Blatt of former UK girl group All Saints. The two were together for seven years. They have one daughter together, named Lilyella. Some of Stuart's most recent work has been with his latest band "LEROI". They were signed onto Geffen Records in Los Angeles. The deal fell through after the heads of the company, Polly Anthony and Jordan Shurr, who signed them, were made redundant.
Zender left Los Angeles in the summer of 2006 to become the Musical director and bass player for Mark Ronson. The release of the album Version in 2007 proved to be a larger success than first expected. Thanks to the success he has performed with Ronson at numerous popular events such as "Radio 1's Big Weekend", "O2 Wireless at Hyde Park", "Global Gathering" and "Glastonbury", and festivals all over Europe including "Montreux Jazz Festival" in Switzerland and "North Sea Jazz Festival" in The Hague. They were also recently special guests on Jay-Z's UK tour.
Recently, Zender has just set up his own record label "White Buffalo Recordings" and has started working on new material for his own album.

Paul Turner of Jamiroquai

Paul Turner (born 11 March 1968 in Sunderland, England) is a bassist. He is currently the bassist for the British group Jamiroquai.
Paul Turner currently plays in a band called "Shuffler" alongside Jamiroquai's guitarist Rob Harris and drummer Derrick McKenzie, as well as singer Daniel Pearce, who recently performed on two TV talent shows. Shuffler made a recent appearance at the London Bass Guitar Show 2012. Paul is also involved in a band called "The Dark Sinatras" who are heavily influenced by rock/metal. They have recently released an album (As of May 2012).
Paul became a professional bass player in 1987 at the age of 19. Before becoming the bassist for Jamiroquai, he played for several artists including Annie Lennox for two years, and George Michael. Paul joined Jamiroquai in April 2005 after auditioning earlier in the same year. He therefore had the task of replacing Nick Fyffe, who left Jamiroquai in 2003, and living up to the reputation of not only Nick, but former group icon and band founder Stuart Zender.
He was present for the recording of Dynamite and latest album Rock Dust Light Star released in November 2010.
Paul mainly uses two basses for live performances with Jamiroquai; a five string Alleva Coppollo and a four string Fender (Both white with a tortoise shell pick-guard).
His playing style is mainly towards Funk/Pop, but is also influenced by Rock. His style suits his position in Jamiroquai, giving him a sharp, clean, popping sound that works well for a classic disco bass feel, and allows for versatility.

Matt Johnson of Jamiroquai

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Matt Johnson (born 3 February 1969, Bournemouth, England) is a keyboardist who plays for the alternative jazz band Jamiroquai.
Matt was aged one and a half when he started playing the piano at his family home. "My dad was a musician so there was always music playing in the house, but I remember being taught by a scary old piano teacher, who must have been over 90 years old". His influences range from Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis through to Squarepusher.
Before playing in Jamiroquai he was a hugely respected writer and performer in bands "Sunray", with whom Kym Mazelle recorded a cover of "Perhaps", and Nu Hope. He has also written and produced artists with artists such as Alexia, who had a minor hit with "Ring".
His route into Jamiroquai was via an audition in 2001. He was recommended by Simon Katz, a previous guitarist, and Derrick gave him the call. The audition was a success and Matt is now a well established writer and member of the Jamiroquai family.
Johnson has recently become chief song writing partner and producer along with band mate, guitarist Rob Harris, for the highly anticipated teenage singer/songwriter Julian Perretta (Sony BMG) towards his debut album. A date for release is thought to be 2009.

Self-taught, after a long period of DJ-ing in and around London’s underground club scene in the mid-late 80′s, Sola graduated from a young backing vocalist with Gasper Lawal and the Oro Band, to percussionist/drummer in a remarkably short space of time.

After watching the late Miguel ‘Anga’ Diaz (percussionist with Irakere), then participating in a workshop with the great Alex Acuna (Weather Report drummer/percussionist), Sola was inspired to seek greater depth in his playing and find his own voice.

UK jazz guitarist Ronny Jordan was the next front man to notice Sola’s ability, enlisting his subtle groove and feel on his next 2 albums: ‘The Quiet Revolution’ and ‘Light to Dark’ – the later album showcasing Sola’s writing and singing ability.

Sola really found his sound after working with the Congolese singer songwriter Lokua Kanza, originally based in Paris, now in Rio, Brazil. Lokua encouraged Sola to explore his own musicality, giving him complete freedom in his musical landscape to express himself. Showing complete trust in Sola’s musical abilities, he left him in the studio with his sound engineer for a full day, enabling Sola to return from Paris inspired and empowered to continue his musical journey.

This power was to continue growing. Jason Kay, leader of the phenomenally successful band Jamiroquai, recognised and harnessed it. Jamiroquai percussionist since 1997, debuting on the huge selling album Travelling Without Moving, Sola Akingbola has been a stalwart member of the band ever since.

Derrick started drumming in the 1960s, at the age of six, banging furiously on the kitchen floor with two of his mum's coat hangers, to a beat on the radio. At the age of ten, Derrick was inspired by a friend playing in a reggae band. This encouraged him to go out and play his own local gigs. Another friend decided to lend him a drum kit, until Derrick persuaded his mum that he should start hiring one.

At fourteen Derrick joined his friend Toyin's band. She was an exceptionally good singer and was already working with different reggae artists only he could dream of.

By sixteen, Derrick got a job at Marks & Spencer in East London earning £9 a day, working Saturday mornings from 7am until 1pm.

Finally the day arrived when Derrick was able to buy his very first drum kit. With his dad's help, he managed to get together £400 to buy a Slingerland 1960s drum kit. In the late 1980s Derrick joined a jazz funk outfit called Tranzeyance. They did gigs and rehearsed every Tuesday without fail in Shoreditch, East London. He loved those days.

Eventually he joined a band called Candyland. He was still working at Marks & Spencer, but started to finish work earlier so that he could come home and practise.

Candyland got signed by Fiction Records for a few years and released an album. But they got dropped, which was a trauma. But, they had a fantastic run and did some damn good touring!

After getting over being dropped, a mate told Derrick about a pop rap outfit called Freaky Realistic. They did a few TV appearances and showcases, but Derrick still wasn't satisfied.

Eventually he got a call from another friend whom he had played some gigs with. The band was Urban Species, a rap outfit from North London. All the guys and one lady were fantastic, especially live. They toured Europe extensively and it was such a great experience, doing Japan at Christmas!

In 1993 Derrick met a friend of a friend who was a top producer, two days later rang Derrick to ask if he'd like to audition for a band called JAMIROQUAI. Derrick hadn't even heard of them at the time! So he did his two long auditions... and the rest lovely people, is history!
