Paul Turner (born 11 March 1968 in Sunderland, England) is a bassist. He is currently the bassist for the British group Jamiroquai.
Paul Turner currently plays in a band called "Shuffler" alongside Jamiroquai's guitarist Rob Harris and drummer Derrick McKenzie, as well as singer Daniel Pearce, who recently performed on two TV talent shows. Shuffler made a recent appearance at the London Bass Guitar Show 2012. Paul is also involved in a band called "The Dark Sinatras" who are heavily influenced by rock/metal. They have recently released an album (As of May 2012).
Paul became a professional bass player in 1987 at the age of 19. Before becoming the bassist for Jamiroquai, he played for several artists including Annie Lennox for two years, and George Michael. Paul joined Jamiroquai in April 2005 after auditioning earlier in the same year. He therefore had the task of replacing Nick Fyffe, who left Jamiroquai in 2003, and living up to the reputation of not only Nick, but former group icon and band founder Stuart Zender.
He was present for the recording of Dynamite and latest album Rock Dust Light Star released in November 2010.
Paul mainly uses two basses for live performances with Jamiroquai; a five string Alleva Coppollo and a four string Fender (Both white with a tortoise shell pick-guard).
His playing style is mainly towards Funk/Pop, but is also influenced by Rock. His style suits his position in Jamiroquai, giving him a sharp, clean, popping sound that works well for a classic disco bass feel, and allows for versatility.
